Swansea Community Farm – Buzzing with Bees and Pollinators

This summer, Swansea Community Farm placed a special focus on raising awareness in Penderi about the vital role that bees and other pollinators play in our ecosystem. Families engaged in fun activities like crafting beeswax wraps, candles and children used butterfly feeders to explore insect lifecycles, making the lessons both educational and entertaining.

The success of these pollinator sessions led to an exciting community request for more bee-related events. In response, Swansea Community Farm hosted a Honey Harmony event in September. This event was a highlight of the summer, as local residents got hands-on experience harvesting honey from the farm’s beehives. Attendees spun honey using centrifugal force and even tasted it straight from the comb! Participants from previous beekeeping workshops were thrilled to see the process come full circle and deepening their understanding of bees.

We carried on the theme of nature exploration with a foraging trip to Three Cliffs Bay. Many volunteers learned to identify and taste new plants under the guidance of an expert, culminating in a picnic and sea dip.
