Connected and Accessible Neighbourhood

This links directly with the High Quality Homes and Blue and Green Infrastructure ambitions, and will look to create beautiful and accessible walking and cycling routes in and around Penderi that connect with wider networks across Swansea.

First, we need to make sure we all feel safe using these routes and think about what can be done to make these spaces more attractive to use.

Blaenymaes Drop In Centre has started a ‘Litter Picking Hub’ with support from Keep Wales Tidy. This means that anyone can go and collect useful items like hoops to keep bin bags open, gloves and litter pickers to tidy up and area on their own or with their neighbours.

One resident has started to litter pick with children on her street and the green lane at the end of their homes. They collected 20 bags in their first litter pick!

There’s work to be done with local travel companies to start to plan public transport for the future, looking at the possibility of electric vehicles and pool cars, for example.

We are also starting to think about how to improve digital connectivity (access to wifi, fibre connectivity and equipment, like laptops) linked to the huge investment in Swansea Bay City Deal, ensuring residents in Penderi benefit from the £55 million Digital Infrastructure programme across the Swansea Bay Region
